SOS NEPAL

SOS NEPAL

Unity is strength! We all have a single purpose: to join forces to help as many Nepalese as we can, with various actions that are being developed in Nepal, with the intention of alleviating the devastating effects of the pandemic such as hunger and the spread of the virus, and giving our full support to the health field.

All the signatories have strong values and we will do everything in our power to obtain the necessary aid and send it directly to where it is most needed.

Therefore, we ask you to select one of the projects listed in the manifesto to make together, bit by bit, a chain of aid as the mountain range that embraces NEPAL.

Press release

Several NGODs appreciate the Spanish Government’s health aid to Nepal but regret that it does not send food kits

• SOS Himalaya, Amunt Nepal, Udana, Hugging Nepal, Amics del Nepal, Petit Món y be artsy remind the Executive that it is also necessary to face the economic crisis derived from the health crisis that the country is suffering

Inaki Ochoa Foundation of Olza-SOS Himalaya, Amunt Nepal, Udana, Hugging Nepal, Amics of Nepal, Petit Mon and BE ARTSY, Spanish ONGD working in Nepal, thank the Government of Spain and the Ministry of Health who, in the plane which has chartered to repatriate the mountaineers and co-operators who have been caught up in the country by the suspension of flights, you have included a burden of health care.

However, these entities regret that it has not included any food kit or any other type of aid to help alleviate the serious economic crisis in the country resulting from the delicate health situation. These associations understand that the State should also attend to these circumstances since, as the different NGDO work teams have been able to verify, the scenario in Nepal after 14 months of pandemic and restrictions is very fragile.

Spain sent yesterday more than 5 tons of medical supplies, including 15 respirators and 10 oxygen concentrators together with the consumables and spare parts necessary for their use, as well as 144,000 FFP2 masks and 125,000 antigen tests. These entities believe, without any doubt, that this shipment will help to improve the evolution of the pandemic that continues to show hard figures. However, they reiterate that a package of this size should also include a contribution regarding nutrition. They also urge the government to negotiate the shipment of vaccines to developing countries such as Nepal, which, with a population of 30 million, has only administered 2.4 million vaccines.

Nevertheless, these NGDOs will continue to raise funds to help Nepal fight the pandemic in both health and social ways. The fundraising will be centralized in three of these organizations:

-SOS Himalaya will deliver basic food kits for the most vulnerable people, and sanitary kits, with masks and hydroalcoholic gel, so that the population can protect themselves from the virus.

-The donations received by Hugging Nepal will go entirely to buy food for the soup kitchen they run in the center of Kathmandu, where they serve more than 400 people every day. This project is receiving financial support from other organizations such as Karuna Social Programme, Unidos por Nepal, Time for Action, Camina Nepal, Lápices y Colores and Acción Solidaria y Logística.

-Be artsy works with existing spaces, such as polyclinics and hotels, so that they can operate as covid isolation centers, providing trained health workers, supplemental oxygen, and health products such as personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, gloves and disinfectants. Amics del Nepal is also collaborating with this project.
